Services

Sub-acute care is defined as "a comprehensive and cost-effective inpatient programme for patients who have had an acute event, have a determined course of treatment, and don't require intensive diagnostic and/or invasive procedures." Some examples are amputations, brain injuries, cancer and chronic lung conditions like emphysema, hip and knee replacements, Parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries and strokes. In these types of cases, sub-acute care is offered as an alternative to continued hospitalization (or acute care).
Encompassing a multi-disciplinary service model our sub-acute and rehabilitation hospitals offer nursing and medical care, as well as occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, respiratory therapy, speech therapy and many more thereby ensuring that patients are equipped with the skills and tools needed to resume independent living and quality of life.

About

Services include:
  •     Comprehensive nursing care
  •     Wellness education (training in illness prevention and self-care)
  •     Medication management
  •     Education about self-administered treatment programs
  •     Physiotherapy
  •     Respiratory therapy
  •     Occupational therapy
  •     Speech therapy
  •     Support for re-entry to social environment
  •     Referral to home care services
These services are applied within the following four broad categories:
Step-down facility for patients discharged from acute hospitals, but who still needs nursing care before returning home.
Sub-acute care to those patients discharged from medical and surgical wards that need wound care and medication administration.
Rehabilitation for stroke patients, head injuries, multiple trauma patients and amputees.
Nursing care and pain management for sub-acute patients who are unable to take care of themselves
The establishment of these hospitals also plays a role in job creation and the advancement of health care in South Africa.  It is undoubtedly providing an opportunity for health care professionals to practise in their own country as they have the facilities to execute their duties professionally and without compromise.  Intercare considers the establishment of more of these facilities not only as a service to the market, but also as a responsibility to create a platform for our doctors and specialists.
In this regard, Intercare has already received a license for the establishment of the company’s first day hospital in Pretoria, Gauteng.
